Eight tips to prepare you for spring

In these last few weeks of winter you’re probably starting to notice signs of spring and perhaps you feel like being more social, active and outgoing. Here are eight tips to energize and uplift your spirits to get ready for the new light and new possibilities of spring.

1. Cut back on caffeine

Caffeine contributes to dehydration and blood sugar ups and downs which can lead to mood swings.

2. Drink water

Most of us are chronically dehydrated. Before you turn to sugar or caffeine for energy, have a glass of water and see if that does the trick.

3. Eat dark leafy green veggies

Greens are full of vitamins and nutrients and great for improving circulation, lifting the spirit, purifying the blood and strengthening the immune system. Broccoli, collards, bok choy, kale, mustard greens, Swiss Chard, arugula and dandelion greens are some of the many to choose from.

4. Switch to natural sweets

Avoid sugar and chemicalized artificial sweeteners that are toxic and addictive. Eat sweet vegetables such as yams, carrots and beets. Use more natural sweeteners like maple syrup, honey, and dates.

5. Get moving

Start with simple activities like walking or yoga for just 10 minutes a day. If you are a more advanced exerciser try boosting it up to three to four days a week at one hour each. If you’ve been thinking about running a race or registering for a spring running event, now’s the time.

6. Aim for more sleep, rest and relaxation

When you are tired or stressed, you’ll crave energy in the form of sweets and caffeinated foods. These cravings are often a result of being sleep-deprived for months and years on end. Find activities that restore your energy and schedule a weekly date with yourself to do the things that relax and energize you.

7. Connect with your spiritual side

We are spiritual beings in a physical world. Find ways to connect with the divine — whatever that looks like for you. Meditating, dancing, yoga, going to church, or being in nature.

8. Let go of relationships that drain you

People can drain you of your energy. Take some time to to notice who drains you and why. Maybe a conversation or establishing boundaries is all it needs. Or maybe you have to end it once and for all.

Following these eight tips can boost your energy and have you feeling light and renewed so you can welcome the new growth and opportunities of spring.

P.S. If you are looking for a supportive group to help you implement some of these spring tips, then my Spring Release & Renewal cleanse might be for you. It’s coming a little later than usual due to travel I have in early June. We’ll be cleansing from June 10-24th.
