5 mistakes new health coaches make while coaching

This week I’m wrapping up six weeks of Coaching Circles with IIN students.

It’s always a bittersweet week as we come to a close after a short but intense period of connection and community.

Over the six weeks I’ve had the honour and pleasure to listen in to 60 fishbowl coaching demos. How these work is, one student is the coach, one is client and the rest of us listen in as the observers and witnesses. After, we unpack and debrief the demo.

I hear time and time again how powerful these practice sessions are in helping new coaches build their confidence and skills. And being the client is an insightful learning experience too.

I’m always so impressed by the professionalism and competence shown by new health coaches. Most often I see coaches who deeply care, are warm, kind, compassionate and want to help.

And, after listening to around 600 demos over the last eight years, I’ve noticed some common challenges that new coaches have with the coaching process and skills.

In this video I share my top 5 list of challenges new health coaches have while coaching and offer tips on what to do instead.

After watching you'll be aware of these common pitfalls and have practical strategies to work through them so you can provide real value and effective coaching to your clients.

Which challenge do you find yourself encountering most often? What can you do differently next time? Tell me in the comments...

I loved listening to this. Thank you. It helps remind me what good coaching is about and to reflect on where I can adjust.
